I believe the history books and numerous other illustrious personalities have played their part well. Instead, bear with me as <strong>I<\/strong> <strong>take this opportunity to apprise you of his poignant global legacy which instigated the world movement of resistance against discrimination through nonviolence!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The UN declared October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence<\/strong>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mkgandhi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Gandhi (opens in a new tab)\">Gandhi<\/a> inspired movements for civil rights and racial discrimination not only in India, but across the world which ultimately changed the course of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Chapter of South Africa<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"653\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-1.jpg\" alt=\"Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa\" class=\"wp-image-11889\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-1.jpg 653w, https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-1-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><figcaption> <em><strong>Gandhi and his associates pose in front of his law office in South Africa<\/strong><\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We may all be aware of this episode in South Africa where, despite carrying a first class ticket, Gandhi was thrown out from a train to Pretoria, because a white man believed it was beneath his dignity to share a train compartment with an Indian. This triggered Gandhi\u2019s fight against class division and injustice in the country. What followed were countless incidents of discrimination, which led to his adoption of non-violent protests across the country and the birth of Satyagraha. During the next two decades, Gandhi continued his fight, which propelled the country towards a discrimination-free society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We may all be aware of this episode in South Africa where, despite carrying a first class ticket, Gandhi was thrown out from a train to Pretoria, because a white man believed it was beneath his dignity to share a train compartment with an Indian. This triggered Gandhi\u2019s fight against class division and injustice in the country. During the next two decades, Gandhi continued his fight, which propelled the country towards a discrimination-free society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While Gandhi left the country to return to India in 1915, his mass resistance and nonviolence philosophies echoed with South Africa\u2019s anti-aparthied revolutionary, Nelson Mandela<\/strong>. With his efforts, apartheid ended in 1994. The year also marked the proclamation of Mahatma Gandhi as a national hero in South Africa with numerous monuments dedicated to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Gandhi inspired American activist Martin Luther King Jr.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"688\" src=\"https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-2-1024x688.jpg\" alt=\"Mahatma Gandhi essay\" class=\"wp-image-11890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-2-1024x688.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-2-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-2-768x516.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.savaari.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/unnamed-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption> <em><strong>American Civil Rights Movement<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Since being in India, I am more convinced than ever before that the method of nonviolent resistance is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for justice and human dignity.&#8221; <br><\/em><strong>&#8211; Martin Luther King Jr.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Martin Luther King Jr. adopted the Gandhian ideologies of nonviolence and civil disobedience in his fight to end racial segregation in the United States.<\/strong> In fact, when receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, King held up Gandhi\u2019s beliefs during India&#8217;s freedom struggle as the precedent of using nonviolence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Polish Gandhian<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Mahatma Gandhi guided my conscience during the Solidarity movement.&#8221;<br><\/em><strong>&#8211; Polish President Lech Walesa at Ahmedabad&#8217;s Sabarmati Ashram <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lech Walesa, the leader of the Solidarity movement, adhered to Gandhi\u2019s principle<\/strong> of non-violent civil disobedience for two decades to demand free trade union and end the Soviet-backed Communist Regime in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201c<em><strong>Gandhigiri<\/strong><\/em>\u201d demonstrated by the various world leaders doesn\u2019t end here!
