Bhimashankar is a popular pilgrimage and adventure tourist destination located in Pune district in Maharashtra. It houses one of the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is visited by large number of pilgrims every year. It is located approximately 100km from Pune. It is considered to be one of the holiest places in India. Apart from the shiva temple at Bhimashankar, one will also be attracted towards trekking and wildlife santuary which is the other reason Bhimshankar is well known for.
Nagphani point or the Nagphani peak trek is located at around 120 km from Pune and near to Bhimshankar. It is the highest point in Bhimashankar. As the name itself suggests, this is an adventurous trekking spot with a combination of spirituality. The trek at Nagphani point lasts for about to 2 to 3 kms and is not a tiring one. This is a perfect destination for trek lovers. The view point at this destination is what attracts the travelers. After the onset of monsoon season, this is a must visit place. Once reached on the top, one would be able to view forts like Padargad, Peth and Siddhagad.
Hanuman Lake is one of the popular tourist attractions located in Bhimashanker in the district of Pune. Tourists can see numerous species of birds and squirrels at the lake. A waterfall is another prominent attraction at this site which can be visited during the rainy season. It is a sparkling lake and perfect for bird watching. It is a good picnic spot for families with a temple near by. Even though it is bit difficult to reach the destination, it would be worth the effort because of the scerene and animals spotting. One can travel to this place any time during an visit to Bhimashankar.
Hemadpanthi popularly known for the Big Bell sculpture is an architectural style which was names after its founder Hemadpant. This structure was constructed in the late 13th century in Maharashtra. It is incorporated with Black stone and lime. This unique Bell can be seen in front of the Hindu temple in Bhimashankar.
Kothaligarh or the Kothaligad fort is a small fort located in Maharashtra. It is one of the most famous treks near the karjat area. This fort is an adventurous sport for the trekkers. Enthrall in the stunning view from the top, admire the Bhairoba cave where steps are carved leading to the peak. One can easily reach this destination from Karjat station. It requires at least 3 km of hiking to reach to the base of the fort. With the whole path of trekking being picturesque, it is best advised to visit Kothaligad fort during monsoon. Average time of trekking would be aroung 1.5 to 2 hrs.
