Coorg Overview

Coorg, also called ‘Scotland of India’, is a beautiful hill station in Karnataka and considered one of the country’s top tourist destinations. Abbey Falls

Abbey Falls is a scenic waterfall situated at a distance of 5 km from Madikeri. A gorgeous waterfall with a beautiful walk amidst large spreads of coffee plantations. The misty spray of water cascading down to a small river provides a fascinating view. The water here joins the River Kaveri. The best time to visit Abbey Falls is during the monsoon where the force of the water increases making it a very beautiful sight.

Nisargadhama

Nisargadhama is an island formed by the River Kaveri located at a distance of around 4km from Kushalnagar. Nisargadhama is an ideal destination for those who love nature. It is a serene wildlife park where you can relax during your journey. This picturesque location also has a guest house run by the forest department. One can visit this place any day of the week from 9 AM to 5 PM with entry fee. One of activities here include Boating.

Talakaveri

This is the place where the River Kaveri originates and is an interesting tourist destination. There's a temple at the place where river originates and the view from the hills here is spectacular. It is located by Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district. Thousands of pilgrims take a dip on Tula Sankramana, which is believed to be the day the goddess appears with a sudden flow of water in the Kundika.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare is an elephant park near Khushalnagar and is famous amongst nature lovers as it is an elephant- training camp of the Forest Department along the Kushalanagara-Siddapur road. Visitors can take part in a lot of activities involving elephant. They get to ride and caress the elephants. They are told how elephants are used for logging and various other purposes. The wild scenic beauty of these forests coupled with the innocence of these massive creatures is what attracts visitors in Dubare.

Bangalore to Coorg by Road

One of the most significant pit stops on the way to Coorg is the Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe. The monastery was founded in 1963 and is a teaching centre. Known as the land of Sugar and Rice, Mandya is an ideal amalgamation of picturesque natural habitat and man-made architecture that has stood the test of time. Temples and wildlife sanctuaries are the main attraction in this town.
  • Srirangapatna: Srirangapatna is a small island surrounded by branches of Cauvery River situated at 20 km from Mysore. Built during the 9th century, the Ranganathaswamy temple is the most renowned attraction in this town. The 13 km island at one point in time was the capital of Mysore under the rule of Tipu Sultan, and thus the Muslim architecture is also evident in this town.
  • Bylakuppe: Bylakuppe is a little Tibetan settlement in Karnataka barely 90 km from Mysore. There are Buddhist Monasteries, universities, and nunneries in Bylakuppe. Namdroling and Sera are two well-known monasteries in this town that are bound to give you a sense of peace and tranquillity.
