The mystery of Muziris – India’s lost emporium

Muziris once thrived on a rich trade of spices, sandalwood, gems, and ivory, earning it the title “the first emporium of India” by ancient Roman writers. However, in modern-day India, Muziris was much more of a legend than a real city – until archaeological excavations in Kerala started in 2004. Muziris has completely disappeared, leaving behind only historical references and clues to its once-grand presence. This vanishing act of Muziris remains one of India’s most intriguing mysteries.
