Its current name is a diminutive of its ancient name of ‘Arbudaanchal. In the puranas the region was called Arbudaranya or ‘forest of Arbhuda‘. It is said that sage Vashistha retired to the southern parts of the region after his fallout with sage Vishwamitra. The hill-town had exchanged many hands and rulers over generations – from the Deora-Chauhans to the Gurjars, Rajputs, and to the British Raj, before it became a part of independent India.

Mount Abu can easily be reached by train. The nearest railway station is at Abu Road, located about 25 KM away. There are a host of trains connecting Abu to major Indian cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad etc. After reaching, you can book a cab from Abu Road to Mount Abu.

By Road

There are two options for road travel:

1. You can take a bus – There are daily and direct bus services to the hill station from Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, and Baroda. Many state and private buses operate between these routes.
2. You can take a car – Udaipur is only 165 km away. Book a cab from Udaipur to Mount Abu to reach there within 3 hrs via NH27.

By Flight

There are no direct flights to Mount Abu. The town is served by Maharana Pratap airport in Udaipur.
