Mount Abu is the only hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan – much like an oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan. Every year, religiously, Mount Abu organizes a Summer as well as a Winter Festival in the months of May and December respectively.

A little bit about its history

Mount Abu Winter Festival is a joint initiative of the Municipal Board of Tamil Nadu and the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. The festival was started to break the monotony of everyday life.

How often do you get a chance to listen to the folk singers on a cold winter night while your eyes feast upon the liveliness of the Ghoomar, Gair, Dhap and Kalbelia dance forms?

Great, Grand Processions

Another important highlight of the festival is the grand processions. These are usually organized by the local authorities and these mark the inauguration of the Winter Festival. Each year, the procession starts from Hotel Shikhar of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and ends at Nakki Lake Chowk. These extravagant processions are undoubtedly a treat to the eyes.

On the last day of the festival, you will find a large number of lamps on the Nakki Lake. This particular practice is known as Deepdaan. The very sight of numerous lighted lamps floating in the river looks nothing short of magical. Also on all three days, the magical fireworks with Nakki Lake and towering mountains in the background mesmerize all tourists alike. 

Mount Abu to your rescue
